The Euro Is Coming to Bulgaria in 2026

💶 Here’s what Marketing Authorisation Holders (MAHs) need to know about medicine prices

Bulgaria is officially switching to the euro on 1 January 2026. As part of this change, the prices of all medicinal products will be aligned with the new currency, in accordance with the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria.

During the transition period, the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products will publish medicine prices in both BGN and EUR on its website.

The automatically converted prices appear across the key official registers:

  • the register of approved ceiling prices (Rx),
  • the register of maximum retail prices (OTC), and
  • Annex 4 of the Positive Drug List.

The goal of publishing euro prices in advance is to ensure clarity, predictability, and a smooth transition for all stakeholders. MAHs do not need to take any action—the conversion happens automatically.

🔢 How will the price conversion work?
The conversion from levs to euros will use the official fixed exchange rate expressed to five decimal places. Simply put: price in EUR = Price in BGN Ă· 1.95583
The resulting amount will then be rounded to two decimal places.

To make things easier, the PharmDedict price calculator has already been updated to support euro conversions. One interesting quirk: because of rounding rules, you might notice a tiny difference—up to one euro cent—between a price converted from BGN and one calculated directly in EUR.
