Bulgaria: Medicinal Products Pricing Calculator

The prices of RX medicinal products are regulated by the National Council on Pricing and Reimbursement in Bulgaria. Before placing any RX medicinal product (whether reimbursed or non-reimbursed) on the Bulgarian market the concerned marketing authorisation holders (MAH) have to initiate administrative procedure for price approval and publishing in the public registers. The procedure involves a price reference system comparing the prices registered in two groups of referent European countries.

Based on the price stated by the MAH (price of manufacturer to wholesaler) there is a price formation mechanism which further defines the maximum allowed prices of the wholesale distributors and finally the maximum allowed retail price to consumer. The margins of the wholesalers and retailers depend on the price of the concerned medicinal product (there are three different pricing groups) and are limited in their absolute value. As this is a relevantly complicated system the calculator below helps understanding how it works (just enter a number in the yellow field and hit Enter).
